Just east of Toronto in Pickering, this recently opened resort gives Durham Region its own modern casino-hotel — a light, contemporary floor with a new tower, a theatre and a run of restaurants, built to draw the eastern suburbs without the drive downtown.
The floor is new, bright and comfortably sized — a good table pit, a high-limit room, a poker section and plenty of slots under clean, contemporary light. It's lively without the sensory overload of the very biggest rooms.
Because it's the region's main draw, it fills nicely on weekends with a friendly local crowd. It won't out-muscle the GTA's largest floors, but it's an easy, well-run room to spend an evening in without feeling lost.
The tower rooms are modern and well-finished, with the fresh fittings and big glass of a recent build, and they're a genuine step up from anything the area offered before. Comfortable and quiet, if not yet distinctive.
Everything connects under one roof, so the floor, the theatre and the restaurants are all a short indoor walk from your bed. It's a smart, contemporary stay; just know the surrounding suburb, not scenery, is what's outside the window.
The dining spans a steakhouse, a food hall and casual rooms, and the live theatre and event space give the resort a real reason to keep you past dinner. There's a spa for the slower hours too, which not every new-build bothers with.
It's clearly built to be a full night out for the eastern GTA, and on that it delivers. The caveat is that, being young, it still feels a little corporate and unweathered — the personality is arriving, but it isn't fully here yet.
For a brand-new resort this polished, the value is reasonable and often best midweek, and its position off the 401 makes it a quick trip for anyone in Durham or the eastern suburbs who'd rather not drive into the city.
Come for a bright, convenient night close to home and it's an easy recommendation. Come chasing grandeur or a view and it isn't the address for you.
